As the newly appointed director for Retired Pay Operations, we wish farewell to Mr. Douglas W. Smith, who has accepted another position within the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
As Director, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am an active duty Navy Commander, with over 15 years on active duty. During this period I was the Supply Officer on two Amphibious Ships and a forward deployed Amphibious Staff. I have five overseas deployments in support of numerous operations, including an individual augmentation deployment on the ground in Iraq. Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance:
Section 644 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2008 created the Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance (SSIA). This allowance is payable to all Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuitants whose annuity has been offset for receipt of Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) and Concurrent Retirement and Disability Payments (CRDP) Open Season:

My truck was stolen last week and my statement form 1099R
was in in the vehicle.How can I get another copy of retired
statement form 1099R for 2008?

Sorry to hear of the theft. However the 1099 problem is easy. Just go to your account on Mypay: https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx and you can print out as many copies as you need. If only getting the truck back was as easy.
hello i`m retiree from army well this is my point i was member of arng with 27 years in 2003 i was deploy to iraq in 2005 i come back with injury on my back and both shoulder i continue with ng then in 2006 iwas deploy to arizona to the border i have injury on my left knee i have sergury on my knee but i was unfit for duties on (peb,meb )then give me a 40% disability and permanent disability retirement in my dd214 line 18 i have soldiers disability is service connected entitled to 40% disability line 23 retirement and line 28 disability, permanent. the razon to send this statement is becouses i recive the retiree account statement that no have enough information like for what is the statement is for the 40% disability or for the retirment. dfas office dontknow what is this statement i need somebody explain to me what is the deal with this. va tell me i`m suspostu have 2 chek one for desability and one for retirment explain to mi
Hi Dario. Thanks for commenting, but I am afraid I am over my head on this. I don’t know anything about disability pay and how that is supposed to work with retirement pay. And if I start offering advice in that area I could wind up hurting instead of helping.
I’d suggest you go somewhere they have experts that are on the side of the soldier, not the government. Some places to start: Your local American Legion post (you want to see the Service Officer). Your local VFW Post, since you did have foreign service. Your closest NCOA chapter or Retired Enlisted Association. Your local Disabled American Veterans post.
