Video Thoughts That Make Sense
I’ve had a rather extensive "dos and don’ts of video" post in the "draft" box for some time now. I came across this one from Stuart over at Pimp My Page Rank recently and Stu said everything I was going to say and more. Here’s one of the most important main points:
… It takes too long - I just did a little testing, and it appears that I can scan text at a rate of about 800 words a minute, but only talk at a rate of around 260 words a minute. That means that for a 1,000 word post/video, I can read it in around one minute 20 seconds, where I have to sit through you talking for around four minutes (and this doesn’t even take into account buffering time etc). I’m a busy man with little free time, so this is a real negative. …
If I were you, and interested in making your blog "sing" and had a lot of video thoughts in mind? I’d read the rest of Stu’s video points and do some serious thinking.
Video posts are great for an occasional spice in the cake. Or as a neat adjunct that increase your blog’s value … part of your "Unique Selling Proposition" that differentiates your blog from everyone else’s.
But vids as you "main fare", day after day, post after post? Nope, I can’t agree. Video
- Takes too long, even on fast connections … and not everyone has one.
- Takes too frickin’ long to get to the point … TV is a time waster, not an information tool.
- Is inaccessible to more people than you think … Universities, government offices and many businesses and more routinely bock or restrict video .. and people who work there, and surf from their cubicles, are the very people who make money and have it to spend … your target audience, Duh.
So if you are bound and determined to move your blog to video … don’t make it your prime method, or you’ll lose me, and likely lots of other subscribers.
P.S. Speaking of subscribers, you are a subscriber here at Retired Pay World, are you not? If you haven’t take the plunge yet, just click here and you’ll be in. If you prefer to subscribe via email rather than a feed reader (that RSS thingy), then click here and get the news designed for seniors and retirees making money on line in your regular mailbox, as it’s published. Thanks, and thanks to you who already have … it’s a real kick to tune into Feedburner and watch the numbers climb.
P.P.S. Speaking about Stuart and Pimp My Page Rank … Stu is running a way kewl contest on his blog with prizes that mean something … not "yet another eBook download", but site-wide followed links on his popular blog for 6 months .. worth your time in entering if you have a blog or website that could use some extra traffic an link love. I’m in. Thanks Stu.
