Blogs of Value

This page is all about blogs I regularly read, why I think they are of value, and why I suggest you read them too.  From time to time I will update this list … it’s by no means all the blogs I regularly read, but a selection of ones I think you will find of particular value.

griz_1 Here’s one of my favorites that I should have gotten put up here a long time ago, Make Money Online For Beginners, written by a fellow in Canada who I am insanely jealous of.  Not because of his blogging, which is certainly notable, but because his “real world” job is his own fishing lodge way up in the Canadian Northland.  If I could stand the cold, I’d be there now ;-)

If the picture here looks a little “bland”, you have already hit upon one of Grizzly’s tricks … keep the blog really plain, even “ugly” in some folk’s view, and focus completely on the keywords, rankings and income.  The “look” may not please you but the results certainly prove there is some value to the method.  Griz can get pretty opinionated at times (another of his secrets) and he makes no bones about ridiculing the efforts of so many of us who sort of have a notion to become another “A-List” style blogger, but reasonable controversy and in particular, trying things and then reporting on results is what it is all about.  Recommended.

ironblogger

IronBlogger – This is a refreshing blog with an enthusiastic “take” on the blogging world.  Among some of his more interesting projects is a list 100 Bloggers That Will Help You Make More Money Online , and a brand new blog he is starting from scratch involving learning to play the guitar,  Free Guitar Lessons .

Now my interest in guitar playing is just about zero, as I expect all but a very few of my reader’s is … but whenever someone shows you how they go through the entire process from scratch … successes and failures … it’s a very interesting guide and reference source.

The other project which caught my attention, right away, (maybe because I am listed in it ;-) is the 100 Bloggers list.  There are dozens of people online who profess to know what they are doing who will tell you that linking to other people, without expectation of getting value back. is a dead issue.  Some even go to great lengths to caution you against “leaking page rank’ and other miserly-sounding issues.  So why would a modern, relatively new blogger link out to hundreds of other bloggers?  easy.  His traffic shoots up, as well as link backs, references in other blogs (like this one) and a sense of community builds.  I recommend you follow this one, if for no other reason than to see how publicity on one blog can build other blogs.  It is an interesting contrast to the blog I featured right above, from the Griz, who is actually contemptuous of this sort of community building.  There’s room for many directions and techniques in this business and it pay to learn enough to find out the one that suits you best.  Recommended.

Caroline Middlebrook — Making money online, or trying to!

In September 2007 I quit my day job in order to follow my dreams of becoming an Internet entrepreneur. This blog is my record of that journey. My aim is to learn how to make a living online and transfer that knowledge to others through this blog.

Among Caroline’s claims to fame is an excellent free eBook on making money using niche sites built with WordPress.  Recommended.

vearn_1 Virtual Earner –- This is another favorite of mine.  I’m actually a good friend of the blogger, Bob Martin, he’s one of the only “online luminaries” at any level that I actually know and have met in real life.  Bob is one of the movers and shakers in the world of blogging about the Philippines and the life of expats like he and I both are actually living in the Philippines, but that’s not why I feature him here.

Bob absolutely makes money with blogging and other websites, but what is much more important to the message I try to convey is, Bob has essentially earned his own living with no ‘real job’ ever since he left college.  IIRC correctly he’s only had a salaried position a few brief times in his life and he raises a lovely family, employs a staff of people and satisfies a lot of happy customers all in the “virtual” world.  A lot of people say they would like to live this way, few ever do.  Bob is one of them.  My only criticism of this blog is, he doesn’t spend enough time with it … unlike all the standard SEO, HTML, this tech word, that tech word goggledegook we are used to from most bloggers (I know, I know, I’m guilty too), bob has a wealth of wisdom from the “brick and mortar” side of business and how to translate that knowledge into online opportunities.  Recommended.

memwg_1Eric Giguere Discusses Anything Related To AdSense — The Unofficial AdSense blog

MEMWG is Eric Giguere’s unofficial and long-running blog about Google’s AdSense program. He also covers contextual advertising and related topics.

Eric is the author of two books about AdSense:

niche-geek.com blog

NicheGeek.Com — Showing you what Others Overlook

Dmitri Davydov loves niches. I first got interested in AdSense niches couple years ago, when I accidentally found out that you can make either $0.02 or $2.42 per click. The difference? Topic of your article….there is a marketing section at this website, where you can find various tricks that can quickly double or quadruple your revenue. In addition to that, you are free to contribute your own tips, ideas and articles to NicheGeek.Com.

'Blog Consulting and Coaching Remarkablogger' Remarkablogger.com — Remarkable Blog Consulting and Coaching

I haven’t been reading Michael for as long as some other bloggers I enjoy, but I feel that is certainly my loss.  Michael knows how to write well.  he also is great on staying on his topic and speaks from actual experience in the business world … both on line and off.

Michael sells his services as a consultant and, at times, other things, but he’s a great man to emulate as far as making sure you do not overload your potential customers/clients with sales propaganda.  Recommended.

retires_21 Retire @ 21Young Entrepreneurs Making Money Online

So why should a blogger with a site and blog mainly about making money in the “golden years” and empowering retirement for seniors and retirees recommend a blog that is entitled “Retire @ (at) 21”?  Easy.  Good writing and good ideas are ageless.  Michael Dunlop is slightly over 21 … but not by much, but he presents subjects and interesting avenues of information that are valuable for those from 8 to 80.  A here’s a thought more of us who are well past 21 should keep in mind.  We aren’t getting younger.  And if a teen could learn and earn enough in 4 or 5 years to retire at 21, why can’t, say, a 60 year old learn and earn enough by 65 to retire in security rather than obscurity?  Recommended.

Courtney Tuttle blog Courtney Tuttle’s Internet Marketing School — Court is a fellow I have followed for some time.  he originally seemed. to me. at least right on the edge of a “black hatter” so there were many times in the past I would have hesitated to recommend him..But today he’s migrated into a very forthright and helpful guy.  Along with some partners he has a venture called the “Keyword Academy”, but he still writes frequent and interesting posts on his original blog.  Among the things Court has gained a little fame for is one of the best articles about blogging, bar none, his 5263 word opus on how to start a blog, right now.  It’s two year old right now so there are some minor updates in order, but if you want to learn what the blogging side of making money is all about, all in one place, no downloading, no sign-ups, no nothing except clear and concise information, it’s still tops in the field.  Recommended.
