6 Reasons To Switch from Traditional Books to eBooks

28/03/2009 by: Meagan Miers

Thanks to the rising popularity of portable ebook readers, more and more people are choosing ebooks over traditional books as their main reading material. If you’re still reading paper books, there are many reasons why you should consider switching to ebooks.

Reason #1: Ebooks Are Cheaper

Everybody loves to save money, especially avid readers, and the price of new hardbacks has gotten ridiculous these days. Even paperbacks have gotten pricey. Luckily, there is a much cheaper alternative in the form of ebooks. These come electronically, saving the publisher money that they then pass along to you by offering copies at less than half the new book price.

Reason #2: They Don’t Take Up Space

Imagine your library, with books lining the walls. Now imagine a small electronic device called a portable ebook reader that is about the size of a paperback book and has enough memory to hold all those dust collecting books. With ebooks you can free up a lot of space in your home!

Reason #3: More Books to Choose From

There is nothing comparable to being excited about a book only to find out that the local book store doesn’t have any in stock. Ebooks eliminate the frustration of having to drive around searching for a book and hoping that one is available. You can typically download an ebook immediately after purchase so instant gratification is assured when you’re looking for a great book to read.

Reason #4: Read Books for Free

Once you have your portable ebook reader you can often find ebooks for free. There are many classics as well as public domain titles that are free to download. Sometimes authors and publishers will also release their works for free.

Reason #5: Traveling is Easier with Ebooks

One of the biggest problems book lovers come across is bringing books along to travel. It can be very cumbersome to walk around with a stack of books! When you’re traveling with an ebook reader this is not something you’ll have to deal with. That’s a great relief and a way to make sure the book or information you need is always at your fingertips.

Reason #6: Customize Your Reading Experience

Ebooks offer the ability to save your place while reading so there are no more worries about losing your bookmark and having to search for where you last left off. Not only can you save your place in an ebook but you can also utilize the search feature to locate a specific word or phrase so you can always navigate to the spot of your choosing.

Ebooks will make the life of the avid reader much easier. There are many great reasons to start reading ebooks so if you haven’t used them before, now is a great time to start.
