Have You Visited A Child At College? Who Was Your Guide?

Here’s a great idea from an enterprising young "co-ed" … yes, we used to call girls in college that, didn’t we?  Sorry I temporarily lost the link (I’ll add it back soon as I come across it)  … well never mind, aside from yet another picture of a pretty girl and her computer you aren’t going to miss much.  The gist and execution of her idea is very simple.  Knowing how much trouble her parents and her friend’s parents had when they visited … where to stay, where to eat, how to get tickets, take tours, etc., she simply started blogging about visiting parent tips and putting up resources (with affiliate links and ads, of course) to do nothing more than help visitors find their way and have a better stay.

You may remember I wrote some time back about learning to make money from your granddaughter  Making "My Space tools may, or may not, be outside the experience-level and comfort zone of some of my fearless senior readers but a huge percentage of you visited children and or grandchildren at university … I know you did.

Did you get ripped off?  Are there things you want to tip other parents about?  I know there are.

Geez, talk about missed opportunity … I lived more than twenty years in Colorado Springs.  There are two weeks during the year every "Springisian" either loves or hates or both … Academy Graduation week and the best home game of the year for the AF Academy football team … if you don’t know which one is best the AF-Army or AF-Navy game is always a good bet,.  It can be a real pain to be in town on one of those weeks … and even pretty shabby motels fill fast.  So where’s a visiting parent to stay?  How do you get around without getting caught in traffic?  Is it better to take a room in Pueblo or Castle Rock if you can’t get one in the Springs?  What’s the number for billeting on Peterson AFB and can a retired Mater Sergeant stay there or is it only for colonels? … get the idea?

No matter where you live and what your employment history has been, you live somewhere … and no matter where "somewhere" is there are people interested in your town, or a local tourist magnet, or the university your child went to, or in seeing NFL games at the stadium you visit regularly … the possibilities are endless.

As most of the best rules about blogging always say, write about what you know and you can hardly go wrong … and you do have special knowledge even if you didn’t think so.

Enjoy life, be happy, and do not tell me you can’t make money online!
