Recommended Resources — Christine OKelly

chick_homepageCan’t resist writing about yet another valuable resource I have grown to depend upon here at Retired Pay World … a blog title "Self Made Chick" hosted by Christine OKelly.  Here’s Christine’s own words about Self Made Chick:

Several years ago I quit the cubicle cold turkey to take more control of my life. With 2 kids and no savings, there was a lot at stake. At first it was damn hard. But once I unplugged from the cubicle mindset, the opportunities and money began to flow. This blog is a place to learn from my trials and errors and to share your stories and challenges of entrepreneurship.

Christine is one of the select few of self-styled probloggers who is actually walking the walk as well as talking the talk.  She has he monthly income up in the $7.00 or $8.000 USD range and she does almost all of it from freelance writing.

I know there are a whoop and a group of you reading this who could make money as a freelance writer … you don’t have to write about blogging and other ‘geeky’ stuff, you can use that 30 or 40 years of work and independent living experience you have built up.

Got a PhD in English Lit?  Fine, use it.  Are you a high school dropout?  That’s fine too … there are thousand of people who would love to know what methods you used to hoist yourself up to success after what some would call a bad start.

I keep broadcasting the message that ‘all you have to do is start", but I know well how when faced with something strange we humans tend to get tense and hesitant and dismiss advice like mine as ‘easy for him to say’.

chick_freelance_book Well I’m gonna introduce you to something much better than just my advice alone.  Christine has written an eBook that details how she and her husband made mistakes and then found success in the self-publishing world.  Unlike some of my recommendations this one isn’t a giveaway, it will set you back a whole $12.  But I recommend it … because for that $12 you’ll learn proven methods that can easily translate into thousands per month … and, if you take Christine’s advice, the initial $12 is already factored in … only $48 more to be in business … heck of a deal. 9and no, like yesterday’s offering, I am not making one thin dime off this referral … I’m sending you in this direction because I think it is something of value, not because I am getting paid to do so).

This is a good example of the kind of advice Christine gives:

Here’s something I’m amazed has not been written about and sold as an eBook (or at least I haven’t found it): “How to sell an ebook online!” I thought it would be easy, but quickly ran into a bunch of questions. How do you overcome the challenges of the PayPal buy now button? What is the best user “flow” process? Should you offer the book by download or email? If a download, how exactly do you make the page secure so that you have to have paid in order to access it? I would have gladly paid money for an ebook like this from someone who has experience with this. Instead, I spent 2 days researching, experimenting, and pouring over websites of 3rd party providers. Someone please write about this!

Were I you and as tired as I am of wondering if I’ll be living hand to mouth a few years from now … notice the candidates for president on both sides of the spectrum … think any one of them really knows what to do about bankrupt pensions, Social Security and a plummeting stock market?  Nope, I don’t think so either … I’d head over to Christine’s blog and also probably take a big flyer on her book just to see how worth it it is … and while I was there I’d seriously consider subscribing to her blog for future updates on her journey.  (oh, and you are a subscriber here at Retired Pay World, are you not?) (Many thanks to the new subscribers who have joined in the past few days, I know your time and screen real estate are valuable and I really get a kick out of the vote of confidence you have given me.)
