Resurrecting A Dead Web Property — Intro
This retirement thingy isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be. I’m not complaining, you understand … for one thing, I put in my time and I’m going to enjoy it, even if it kills me. for another reason, I can’t reset the clock, I’m not getting younger so the best time to be happy is now. But I sure could use a few extra hours in a day …..
Like many who have tinkered a bit on-line I own a few different domains. A number of them have been sitting and doing nothing with it is usually the wrong thing to do,
My colleague Eric Giguere recently published and excellent article on ways to profit from “surplus” domains. One of Eric’s suggestions, which a heartily recommend is to park “dead” domains on a parking service. This will net you an income … from tiny to substantial, and you need do nothing … you don’t even have to provide a place for the domain to “sit” (web hosting), because the parking service does that for you. I use the best in the business, and you can learn more about who to Earn Income From Any URL with just one click.
There’s a hidden benefit to parking on a good service also. In addition to income you might make from clicks on ads the service provides, you’ll get information on how many visits your parked domain gets. I had a couple domains parked that weren’t really doing anything in terms of click income, but both were getting more than 10 visits per day just because of their domain name. No sense wasting them, figures I. And, as so often happens in this blogging world, another colleague of mine, Pat B Doyle is also writing a series on a very similar line, which I recommend you follow, starting with her introduction to reviving a dead (or under performing) blog.
In many cases when a blogger writes about something like this they keep everything completely secret … and there’s a few good reasons for doing it this way. In my case, though, I see no need for super-secrecy and I’ll reveal all about the blog rehab project as time goes by.
My first order of business, deciding what blog I should “recharge” was not made by some of the standard criteria of keywords … although the fact it will draw lucrative keywords is certainly a plus factor, nor was it dictated by “tricky” SEO (Search Engine Optimization) factors such (here’s the best reference source in the world on SEO, bar none), like having well-paying keywords in the domain name … although this one does also.
The reason I selected my project, pure and simple had to do with a strong theme I am trying to maintain here at Retired Pay World … knowledge and passion.
Everyone reading this post has knowledge, and everyone has one or more passions in life. I already have one blog that is doing well, based on the knowledge I “backed into” in my earlier career (the “bright boys” in the office didn’t want the task, so it got passed off to me) and a passion I developed for the subject during my time of working to make the “lemons” of being assigned a task I didn’t want into the “lemonade” of success. I’ve written more on using your passions to drive your success, you might want to look it over if you haven’t already. The site I am currently having some nice success with is the former blog of my now closed business, www.satviz.com and the site I will “raise from the near-dead” is www.gpsbus.com
