The Best Way To Make Money Online — DoshDosh Survey

Maki over at DoshDosh.com came up with an interesting project today.  You can read about it … and participate, if you wish, at his The Best Way To Make Money Online announcement.

Here’s my view on the issue … the best way, hand’s down, is your way.  I know, I know you think you don’t know how, especially if you are one of my usual target readers who have passed the years of working for a living and are perhaps new to the Internet … but I can assure you, you do have it in you.

Most people who stick their nose into the Online Income space take a look around, gasp, and leave, because it seems mind-boggling, and it is.  I know less tan many … but more than a few … and I have been “boggled” and perhaps “hornswaggled” for years.  It’s intimidating, and that’s no joke.  But it took me years to figure this out … I’ll give you the benefit right now today … all that intimidating techno-babble and stats and OTO’s (One Time Offers) don’t really amount to a hill of beans.

In this survey, Maki is going to get dozens, maybe hundreds of technical suggestions … in fact I’m banking on reading them all.  But the way to build a house is to start with a firm foundation … and that’s my contribution.

If you’d like to make money online the only real ingredient you need is passion … passion about something.  All the technical support can come as it is time for each piece, but right now you just have to sit yourself down and decide what you, yourself, are passionate about.

Do you like Golf?  I have about a dozen moneymaking ideas stored up for that.  Do you like making things with your hands?  Wood?  metal, Both … OMG there are dozens of niches you can fit into there.  Can you teach and do you like to?  The thirst for knowledge on the Internet is insatiable.  All you need to start is to find your passion.  Not mine, not Maki’s, not your best friend’s … but your’s.

I read and interact with thousands of folks per week who are working in the Internet “space”.  The one common thread of difficulty the face …. and I certainly include myself in that group…. is a lack of passion.  “What will we try today”?.  Solve that one single issue … which is certainly within your power to solve … no keyboard or Internet connection needed.  So leave me a note … what’s your passion?

What’s my passion? Well, I’m a woman of many passions. I love the Internet itself, so all things Internet draw my attention. I also love writing, reading, animals, anime… I’ve had a few sites related to some of my passions, and I’m currently working on new ones. For some time I considered building certain sites only to earn money, but luckily I gave up all of them even before I started. I realised they wouldn’t work because I just wouldn’t feel like updating them.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for coming by and commenting. You are so right that while it is certainly possible to build a blog or some other form of money-earner in any viable “niche”, it will not at all be fun, and will likely fail if it isn’t a niche you are passionate about.

Good reminder of a post that’s been kicking aroun din my head too, about those of us who have un-used or unwanted URL’s and even entire blogs and sites out there that don’t “fire us up” anymore. I’ve been a little short-sighted in writing everything as if my readers were all beginners, which of course they are not, and virtually all of us have some of these “leavings” trailing behind. There’s a way to make something out of most anything, though, thanks for the inspiration.

Such post would be very welcome. I’m sure many bloggers and webmasters could relate to this situation. You should definitely try to write it. :)

That’s not a bad thing. Everyday you will see beginners around, and they all need some advice. Of course there are also the more experienced ones, but since it’s your blog, it’s up to you whether you want to focus on beginners or not. You might even create different post categories, each of them grouping either basic or advanced tips. This way it’d be easier for you to please all types of readers.

Really great topic. I have learned a lot from what is written here today. I highly recommend this the everyone

Thanks

Hi Nicola,

thanks for stopping by and for the kind words. That DoshDosh survey was some time back, but still very useful … I still get traffic from there (Thanks Maki) and I still learn from the folks who contributed … and the comments.

BTW, whenever I get a comment with anchor text or a URL I always go and look before I approve it … I’m glad tosay that your blog looks well-worth visiting … I love the subject matter and the title/URL? It’s one of those “forehead slappers” … why didn’t I think of that … I could be at the gym and still surfing ;-)

Hi Karen,

Learning or finding a way to monetize my little niches was a challenge to me. As time goes on I find there are other areas I can be passionate about. I think it’s part of the learning curve…

Excellent conversations here!

Cheers!

Norma

Hi Norma .. indeed, I find the learning at least as rewarding as the cash … although working on my txes and finding out how much I actually did make last year has been eye-opening. The IRS is now officially glad I have been working at earning online … paying taxes isn’t fun, but it’s better thna apoke in the eye with a sharp stick, that’s for sure.
