Why You Don’t Make Money Online — Part 2

This post is not only of great interest to my seniors making money online readers and my retiree friends learning to supplement their retirement, but to everyone who is interested in making a buck online, from 8 to 80.

Just a couple days ago I posted what I thought was one of my little "secrets" about making money online, showing you a very simple and totally no cost way to find out what you should be thinking about, before deciding on writing a blog or building a website to make money. In short, find a need people have and figure how you will fill that need. Once you have done that, you can’t fail.

Almost as soon as I posted I got my regular weekly newsletter from a guy I have followed for years, Dr. Andy Williams … a former college professor who makes a very nice, and totally low-key and honest living for himself while enjoying the weather in Tenerife, Spain. Can you guess what Andy was featuring? Yep, using the AdWords Keyword tool. You will find his video quite instructive, he covers some of the same areas I did and also goes into what I had intended to make my next post … how to use the Google tool to find out what Google "thinks" your site is about.

After all, regardless of what you think your site is about, or what I think your site is about, when it comes to search, the only one who counts is Google.

Many people whine, complain and ask fort help with the same general theme … I write about something interesting and yet Google doesn’t send me much traffic.

Andy shows just one excellent example of a site devoted to ‘how to milk a cow’ … pretty narrow niche market that one, eh? Tightly focused, etc., etc.

However, the Google AdWords Keyword Tool believes the site is also about cat care tips … a pretty much useless niche for making money, since the industry standard for a boring, useless sort of site is to call it a "cat blog".

Andy, (and Google) show the why of what seems to be Google’s mistake, but is not a mistake after all.

If you have a blog or another type of web site it would be well worth your time to run the Google Keyword tool against your URL … never hurts at all to find out what Google thinks your site is about … and it could pay big dividends.

BTW, two free tips. Never write about or post inks to those furry creatures that purr … and also,\never mention the legs of a certain TV journalist … the hits just keep on coming when when you never wanted them to begin with.

Not only how to get your blog out to the people but also what NOT to do (whine about why your blog doesn’t get much traffic) and look at what to do to improve it.

Indeed I think that’s the number one piece of advice that almost all “getting started” bloggers need. As humans, we all like to whine … it’s an ingrained human right. But going on line and whining about why you don’t get visitors is like a “whine” and cheese party without the cheese.

Think about what you are going to solve for your visitors and then you _will_ get traffic. Hey, I know it works, I just got back from the control panel for the server that hosts this blog … had to increase bandwidth allowance for the second time this month … thanks, people.
