Three Barriers to Your Online Retirement Success — Part 2

Yesterday I talked about the first of the three barriers you are going to need to overcome to make yourself an online success.  Formal education.  This series is designed for seniors and retirees making money on line, but it is applicable for anyone from 8 to 88.

Today I want to talk about the second big obstacle … the one many people refuse to think of as an obstacle to making money online:

Barrier 2: Friends and Family

To this day, a great many of my friends and family do not support me even though I often make more money than them and have a better lifestyle than they do, mainly because O have empowered my retirement instead of sitting around reasons that prevent me from being an on line success.at the same time.

Why?

Four reasons come to mind immediately:

1. They don’t “get it” – they don’t understand that the money you make is determined by the value you create, not how many hours you spend doing it.  This is a huge issue that you will have to deal with.  Making money on line does not come by magic. and you will often have to put in hours … but they won’t be hours recorded on someone else’s time clock.  Especially for those who have “clocked in” every morning for the past 30 or 40 years, being able to set your own hours doesn’t seem to be a “good thing”, it seems like some sort of sacrilege.
2. They don’t know anyone else doing it – No matter how independent we want to think we are, we are all copy cats to some degree.  If someone is a ”lawyer” for example, then even those with absolutely no law experience think they know what being a lawyer is.  But if you earn several thousand dollars a month referring new clients to a lawyer, what kind of job is that?  Since they don’t know what it is, they are immediately suspicious and negative  Some are so disbelieving they may even feel you are lying.
3. They get defensive -  Since by setting your own course and travelling your own road you are implicitly telling them that their approach is flawed, they are liable to get very huffy and unreasonable in an attempt to defend their comfortable status quo.
4. They just don’t care – Once you decide you are going to educate yourself, learn new skills and make yourself a success – regardless of what entitlement programs Washington promises or doesn’t promise – many people just lose interest in talking with you.  Believe it or not, some people are happy to endure crappy situations because they assume everyone else is stuck in the same boat.  You know, way more than half the seats in the Titanic’s lifeboats were empty.  Why?  Because many passengers just stood around waiting for someone to tell them what to do.  or they followed orders given by the crew that were now outdated and overcome by events.

When you start making money online, there will be a million naysayers who say it can’t be done.  And if you listen to them, you immediately endanger your chances for success. It’s like getting marriage advice from the guy who has been divorced 7 times: if he hasn’t succeeded in achieving your goal, why should you listen to anything he says?

I can assure you of one thing.  Had I been on the Titanic, I would have been saved.  I’ll be damned if I would stand around waiting to be told what to do.  waiting to empower myself making money on line while some Washington bureaucrat decides if he is going to pay off my mortgage for wm, as just one example,.

Screw that.  I just take matters into my own hands and make my own money.  Of course I do not have to worry about mortgage payments any more, I have zero debt, nothing that collectors can hound me about and nothing that can be repossessed.

If you want to learn to make money online then surround yourself with a more supportive set of people. It can be hard to find people who have had success with their own businesses – but finding people who are supportive of what you do can be easier.

Just because you are a senior or retiree does not mean your useful life is over.  Empower your retirement, learn how to make money on line and start a whole new, rewarding chapter in your life.
