Katie Couric Legs (I Mean Lies) And Other Tax Myths
Notice a couple things about the pictures on the left? Well yes, since I have been a careful observer of search patterns here at Retired Pay Analysis lately I know that the average casual “dropper-by” is disappointed because s/he didn’t get to see Katie’s legs. There’s a site that really has little else to do except collect searchers for the famous gams that collects over 300,000 hits per day. http://www.tunc.biz/couric_fan.htm
On one of my other blogs I posted something about “showing leg” and mentioned the successful? newscaster’s legs and had the largest, by far, daily blast of hits ever. I guess the lesson I should learn is to never underestimate either the stupidity of CBS News or the prurience of the average web surfer.
But there’s a real lesson to be learned from the photos above, courtesy of C|Net. They head up a feature on “pictures that lie”. Notice how the one on the left and the one on the right are virtually the same? Except that the on the right the glamorous Ms. Couric appears at least 20 pounds lighter and substantially smaller around the hips? The marvel of PhotoShop or some other sophisticated digital image manipulator.
In today’s world virtually anything can be manipulated, and since these photos allegedly came from none other than CBS sources, even those we think we can trust apparently manipulate as needed to “make a buck”.
Recently I posted am article making the case that many people needed a tax attorney to help them with their taxes. I, of course, got some negative feedback on that stance. “Overkill, insulting to us “professional” tax preparers, etc”.
That’s fine. Those people who manipulate the PhotoShop software of the tax world are entitled to their opinion, exactly as I am. I say, if it is worth paying for tax advice, it is worth paying for the one advisor who is definitely on your side and is allowed, by law to give you comprehensive, private and privileged tax advice and will not provide you with a Photoshopped picture .. a tax attorney.
